Rod Run and Izzy the Jungle Cat...

We dry camped at the casino last night because we couldn't find an RV site anywhere around Long Beach, WA.  We heard the same story with each call: "Rod Run is this weekend - it is the biggest Hot Rod Car Show on the West Coast.  Everything is booked solid."

We aren't on a schedule, so by moving things back a day, we had no problem finding a site.  Seems like a lot of states have towns called Long Beach - we'll be checking out Washington's version.

The GPS said it is 42 miles directly to Long Beach... but, 96 miles by road.  Looks like we will be driving some curves and skirting around some water on this route.  It was a pleasant drive, with mostly light traffic...

We started seeing the occasional interesting car...

And, work boats...

And, Pedigree Catamarans - oh my goodness...

Then, more cool old cars; more traffic...

Yep.  Highway 101 has plenty of curves...

Getting close to Long Beach, it was very clear... this is a big event.

People with chairs set up by their cars, watching other people and cars...

Hope the RV park we are in isn't right on the road like this one!  Joan assured me that ours is 3 or 4 miles out of town.

We rolled into the park, got checked in, and set up...

The sites are all back-in; not a problem, except they are also short... no room to get the scoots out of the trailer while in our site.  No problem - we got the scoots out before we parked.  No "mobile garage" for them tonight.

Time to head into town for some lunch and gawking.  Joan saw a "Crab House" she wanted to try... I'm sure they'll have some kinda meat, too.  ;-)  Ready to roll...

That grassy area to the left would be the dunes; haven't seen the ocean here, yet, but we can hear it.  Heading back to town...

No idea where the actual Rod Run is taking place, but it is bumper to bumper traffic - reminds me a bit of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.  Well, except not many motorcycles, probably isn't 3/4 of a million people here, no nudity (that I saw), and hardly any black t-shirts.  OK, it is nothing like the rally.  But there are a lot of car enthusiasts here.

After getting that photo above, I had to stop to get a close-up of the Corvette...

Not what it seems: the front end of an early 60s version, but look at the length of the body.  Obviously a one-off custom, but SO well done!

The crab place had what Joan wanted; I had some pasta with chicken.  That's kinda meat.  Once we move away from the coast, crab won't be as available or as fresh - gotta take advantage of our location.

We rode around a bit before heading back to the coach.  I do like the muscle cars from the mid-60s to the early 70s - and the Pontiac GTO is one of my favorites...

Truth in advertising on the awning of this store...

This one made me laugh out loud - an old Caddy; a bit of "a boat" - complete with a fender hanging off the side!

Back to the motorhome, we covered the scoots and decided to see what the beach looks like.  We know it is going to be a bit of a walk, even though this place is advertised as "on the beach."  Joan said, "Let's take Izzy for a walk."

"Yeah, I don't think she will go for that tall grass..."  Joan clipped Izzy's leash on and they took off into the grass...

Where's Izzy?  OK, there she is...

"Yeah, I'm thinking I should be the one with the leash - this is my job..."

"Come on, Dad - hurry up!  She's getting way ahead of us!"

At long last - the beach...

Yes, we are wearing jackets.  It is only in the mid-60s, and this is the warmest part of the day.  There isn't a sole out on the beach in swimwear.  Well, hardly anyone on the beach, period.  Heading back to the RV park...

That was definitely the furthest Izzy has walked in one session.  She loved going through the grass - brings out her inner jungle cat.

I think we'll all sleep good tonight.

How is Izzy on the beach like Christmas?

Answer: Sandy Claws!
