On the road again...

Yeah, yeah - Willie Nelson; everybody knows that.  No bonus points for you!  (You have to picture the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld saying that.)

We're out for a couple days in the van - not going far, hoping for some cooler weather with a bit of elevation.  Destination today: Clarkdale, AZ.

Rolling...

 Going north on I-17...

A stop at a Walmart in Cottonwood to pick up a few things before going to the RV park...

Then, out to explore Cottonwood and Clarkdale.  Old Town Clarkdale has one of my favorite shops: The Hippie Emporium; reminds me of going into a head-shop back in the 60s and 70s.  I got another tie-dye shirt, Joan got some Patchouli soap so she'll smell like a clean hippie.  ;-)  We walked around Old Town a bit...

I know: who cares about that - how is Murphy doing?  Thanks for asking.  He made some noise in his carrier for the first 15 minutes or so.  Then, Joan took him out of his carrier and put him on her lap.  He is not a "lap cat" like all our other cats have been, but he tolerated it.  We put lunch out for him, but he wasn't interested.  He did finally settle in in the security of his carrier, with the door open...

I'm guessing about the time he gets really comfortable with the situation, we'll be back home.

From Old Town Cottonwood, we drove the Clarkdale - their big claim to fame is the Verde Valley Railway (we did this years ago with Steph and Dan for a Chocolate Lovers Valentine trip), and the Tuzigoot National Monument...

We decided to go in and take a look.  It is a somewhat restored look at how the people from over 1,000 years ago lived; with the "important people" living on the top of the hill, and others living below that.

There is a paved walkway around and through the structures...

An interesting side trip, and some expansive views from up on top.

One night here, then we'll move on.
