I'm heading out to make some music with "the other guys." This is easy: 5 minutes from our house and all I have to carry is one guitar and a small bag of gear. Allan (who hosts this group) has an amp I can use. He likes to cook and is making pork kabobs and rice today (looks good in the photo he posted on Facebook).
--------
Allan asked if I would shoot some video today. "Sure." No way for me to shoot and be in the video, so this is the 5 guys without the eldest attendee (me). After I got some video, I strapped on my guitar and joined them.
This is a very different experience from playing with Mark and the guys - we all have charts on iPads and rehearse to get a song down reasonably tight, and balance the instruments with the vocals (and have 3 part harmony on most songs).
With these guys at Allan's place, someone will mention a song, pick a key to play it in, then start playing. With no iPad or charts to go from, I have to "watch the hands" on the other guys to see what chords they're playing. Rarely is there a tight ending. Fun in a completely different way. As you can tell from the audio in the above clip, they play loud. And, they are playing quieter than usual (at my urging) for the video; even so, the mics are occasionally clipping.
And, speaking of video, the new camera (Insta360 Go3s) showed up today. The "bundle" that came with that camera is even more than what was shown in the Vine listing. There are some nice upgrades from the previous model Go3 (no "s"): 4k video (up from 2.7k), better audio, better designed hat clip and magnetic pendant, longer battery life. Interesting accessories: a quick reader that also allows you to charge the camera outside the "pod" it fits into, the hat clip (it will clip on other things, as well) now has a magnet on the base; that attaches to the magnetic pendant you wear under a shirt that the camera can attach to. That's a lot of "attach" in that last sentence.
Of course, like most modern tech, it needed to be charged and firmware downloaded before I can test it. I will work on that this evening. The box it came in was about twice the size and weight I expected. This camera is only a couple grams heavier than the previous model... but, it came with a lot of stuff.
Here's some perspective: that white thing in the foreground is the case for my Apple AirPods Pro...
The previous model I had is white - here they are together...
The white one is a bit closer to the camera - they are the same size.
I'll be giving it a test soon.
