Training...

Training today for the HOA board of directors.  3 (of the 5) were there are the designated time, 1 showed up an hour and a half late, and one was a no-show.  Yeah, we are all busy.  The management company we work with provided the training.

It turned out to be mostly generic, with no specific duties for the board members.  If spending significant money, the management company will get approval from the board.  There was discussion of laws that affect HOAs, insurance to cover common areas as well as board and committee members.  We are paying the management company for the day-to-day running of our community.

There is a lot more work with the Architectural Committee compared to being on this board.

Contrary to what I read on social media, no one is profiting from being on this board or on a committee; all volunteer positions.  I have to shake my head when I read the "What is the HOA doing with all the money I paid...???" posts.  Monthly operating statements are available on the homeowners' portal, so every dollar that comes in or goes out is accounted for.  By an accountant at the management company.  Our biggest expenses are landscaping, water, power, and insurance.  We use vendors for the landscaping and other work to be done in the community.  If people want to know how their dues are being spent, there is a breakdown by category for each homeowner.  It is not inexpensive to maintain the community.
