Say "Hi!" to George if you see him...

We departed Mount Desert Island this morning, heading for Kennebunkport, ME, for a couple nights.  That is south of Acadia and Bar Harbor, but you have to go north first, to get off the island and have a way to get west.

Before heading out, Izzy let me know that I didn't play my guitar this morning...

Yeah, that is the case she is laying on.  Not as cushy as the fuzzy bed behind her, or her "house" with the pad Joan made.

Heading north, we made our way through Ellsworth, then headed west, staying on two lane roads.  This bridge at Penobscot Narrows was worth a stop...

Somehow, we wound up in Ireland...

Nah, Belfast, ME.  We also drove through China... I expected it to be a lot bigger.  And, I have no idea how to pronounce this...

It is not unusual for us to be slower than most of the traffic, and I try to keep it to the speed limit when in traffic.  Today, there was a group of motorcyclists going about 10 mph below the speed limit, backing traffic up for quite a ways...

At each passing zone (with an extra lane), a few more cars would get around.  We determined that they are on some kind of memorial run.  We turned onto an even less traveled two lane...

At a bit beyond the half way point for today's drive, we got on the Interstate...

Through Portland - we have now been in east coast Portland, and west coast Portland...

Back to the two lanes and more town driving for the last 25 miles or so.  Some stop and go driving, but we are getting close to our destination (only about 170 miles today).  We had reserved a site at an RV park just outside of Kennebunkport; the reviews we read said it was wooded...

That would be an understatement.  There is no way we'd get satellite reception, but this place has excellent cable.  Whew!  We got set up, let Izzy get settled in, then headed out for a late (almost 3:00) lunch.  The lady at the campground office recommended this place (Sebago) when I told her what we were looking for - it turned out to be outstanding.

While waiting for the food to arrive, Joan did some planning with a local map...

There is Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Arundel, Wells, and other communities that make up "the Kennebunks."  The downtown portion of Kennebunkport is full of shops... and people... and traffic...

We drove through slowly, gawking, then decided to do our own "tour of the local architecture and the water" - there are some beautiful homes here.

No, the two above are not some of the "showier" homes, but they were easy to photograph without looking like a stalker.

Yes, there is a beach here...

Well, you walk over the rocks to get to the beach.  Very pretty, but it will have to warm up quite a bit before I'll be dipping my toes (it was mid-70s today, with a cool breeze).  We passed by this area at low tide...

Joan was taken with this house on stilts...

Maybe because it was out of place with all the other more traditional homes all around it?

In our exploring, we drove down this narrow road with the expectation of some water views...

Nope.  The area in the foreground is a wildlife refuge.  Those homes beyond that are accessible only by private road, with a wide open view of the Atlantic.  Not a lot of places here where the public has access to the water, other than the beach, and you have to have a parking permit to park on the street near that.

Time for us to head back to the coach and get little Izzy a walk in before dark.

Hi HRB. Yes, I have had friends tell me about the Bay of Fundy. Not going that direction this time around.

Never tried a dulcimer. Hey, it's been 50+ years on the guitar, and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. ;-)
