We have arrived!

No, I do not mean we are now "traveling in style" - Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Maine, have been our goal for this summer.  And, we are here!

Last night in Bangor was intentional, so we could get in early today.  The RV park we are in doesn't take reservations.  Instead, you show up (anytime after 8:00 am) and go look for an empty site.  IF you find one, pull in and go back to the office to register.  Not my idea of fun after 5 weeks of getting here.  They have full hook-up sites, water and electric sites (no sewer), and no hook-ups (tents).

It was raining when we left Bangor...

And, raining when we got to the RV park.  We found a site - not one of the "water view" sites they advertise, there are about 6 of those.  No, we are away from that area, with only one neighbor next to us, trees on two sides, and the road.  Odds are good we won't be choking from the smokey campfires in this spot, and it should be very quiet... in fact, the lady at the office said, "We are just 5 sites from you - that is a nice, quiet neighborhood."

"Well, it was."  Yeah, I'm kidding.  With the rain, we only took time to level the coach and plug in electricity - we'll do the rest later, when it isn't raining.  I gave little Izzy an early lunch, and Joan and I drove into Baa Haba (that's northeast talk for: Bar Harbor).  We spent 20 minutes looking for a place to park, and went into Geddy's, a bar and grill with a nice, varied menu.  They gave us one of two places at the front window - good food, a nice view, and interesting people watching...

With bellies full, we went down to the waterfront to get some ideas about what we want to do (besides Acadia National Park) while here...

There will be some boat trips in our future.  We walked around town a bit...

It is reminiscent of Friday Harbor, only more people and more touristy.  Instead of Orca references everywhere, this place is about the lobstah (lobster) and moose.  There are some whale watch boat trips to be had, but they seem to be less of "a thing"... humpback and minke are what they usually see.  None of those oh-so-cool Orca.  They do, however, offer lobster trips, where you can see how they catch lobster - sounds interesting to both of us... as long as we don't have to eat 'em.

A bit more looking around...

... and we head for the car.  It is still early enough in the afternoon that we can get a "preview" drive into Acadia.  Along the way, we stop at an overlook to see the Bar Harbor area from a different perspective...

The roads in the park are typical National Park...

We felt a run up to Cadillac Mountain would give us an "overview" - we stopped at the Visitors Center to get a park map (nice to have a Geezer Pass), and continued... it was 52º when we got towards the top of the mountain (if you can call 1,594 foot elevation a mountain).

Joan was checking out the "Experience Acadia" sign.  I think Acadia is an old Indian word meaning: lots of tourists.  Nice views, though...

The rain had mostly quit, but it was chilly!

And, the obligatory "we were here" shot with a timer...

Back to the coach, and getting "moved in"... well, hooked up.  I didn't think we could possibly get satellite reception with all the trees, but Joan was pretty determined.  She moved the dish and got a reasonable signal... now, all the comforts of home.

Some pavement, some gravel, some grass.  It isn't fancy, but we're excited to be here!
