Getting short...

You're shrinking, Jim?  Yeah, probably.  But that's beside the point.  The "getting ready for the road" is in process.  It takes a while to place everything in travel mode.  The big stuff is done: the CTX and Xmax are strapped down in the cargo trailer.  E-bikes (and that beast of a rack) are mounted on the Equinox.  Most of the stuff that was on the patio has been packed.  The sanitation process has begun on the fresh water holding tank.  "Didn't you do that right before you left Texas?"  Yes, but that means that water has been in the holding tank for about 2 months.  The tank has been pumped out and fresh water with bleach is in.  That will sit overnight, then get pumped out.  Then the tank should be good to go when we put more fresh water in.  The gray and black tanks will get filled, dumped, filled again with some "tank blaster," then dumped again.  We will leave with those tanks empty.

Tomorrow, we'll pull up patio mats and exercise the leveling jacks.  Double check everything in the cargo trailer, say our good-byes to Steph and Dan, then hit the road Saturday morning.

We have "our heads in it."  Time to go home.

Bon voyage and safe travels! Instead of a side trip to Tucson, I will now be meeting my Alaskan friend at the MIM on Monday May 8th, then heading back north. Sorry I'll miss you this trip.

Duke did great at his vet appointment yesterday - he is even down a pound from last year, now 17 pounds. We cut back the kibble considerably and now only use it as a treat. He is a real chowhound and VERY food motivated (I can relate).

Turns out the vet refuses to declaw cats anymore. We sprung for "Soft Paws", plastic tips that are super glued over the claws after trimming. He now has gold glitter toenails after his spa visit! They help us but only last until the claws grow back through again, and were not cheap. She also gave us some Gabipentin to mildly sedate him. Hopefully that will allow us to trim his claws monthly at home. If not, he also gets a car ride to visit with the nice vet techs who coo and fuss over the big, handsome boy. Alice calls it "being professionally hugged" but he still does not like car rides much. Be glad that Rufus does not strongly object to toenail maintenance. We tried the sling that you mentioned last year and could not even get Duke into it.

Hi Earl. Ruf does fine with the car ride, but he is not a fan of getting his nails clipped... you have to pick your time, like right before a meal or when is sleepy. Sounds like Duke is getting quite comfortable with being pampered and getting "spa treatments."

Look around when you visit MIM - you might see Mark doing his "side gig." Our only trip to MIM this season was to see the BoDeans in concert there. What a world class museum!

Not sure what the future holds for our Arizona trips - we may try earlier and just leave the bikes at home (since December is generally one of the "iffy" months here weatherwise. The RV parks being packed makes it tougher to get in where we want to be. This park (our first time here) may not have been so bad if the road construction didn't make it a lengthy trip to go anywhere.

Sorry our paths didn't cross this time. Should be plenty warm for you in May.

Best wishes,
Jim

I will be at the MIM between 10 am - 3 pm on Monday May 08. But I'll watch for Mark while there. It would be great to say "hi" again.
Staying an extra night to catch any concert that might be happening Monday evening is not in the cards, as I'll be heading back north to Nevada directly after leaving the MIM. I get to see my Alaskan friend Cindy this trip and I don't have to drive extra to/from Tucson. That is a win-win.

This is my first trip to Sun City since pre-plague. We got there in early February 2020 just weeks before the whole world shut down. Alice visits her mom 3-4 times a year now that the facility allows visitors again, but flies down. I don't fly and she does not like long car trips. Plus the whole Duke / Lucy factor forces someone to stay home with "the kids" now.

Impressive that you know your schedule that far in advance, Earl! I'm with you on the "not flying" thing, but it's good that Alice can get down to Sun City to see her Mom regularly.

"The kids" thing is important. Our travels always include the furry boy; we are fortunate that he is a good traveler.

The MIM schedule is not that complicated. My friend is driving up from Tucson to meet me, and we chose MIM at 10 am as a good meeting spot and time. She has health issues, so rather limited endurance. We'll almost certainly be done by 3 pm, if not sooner. If I don't set things up with everyone well in advance on this trip then the visits won't all happen. (My first draft had me going on April 12 but there were conflicts). Last time in FEB 2020 we just could not fit in a side trip, and she wasn't able to drive north.

Enjoy your time with your friend and MIM. Sounds like a good combination.
