A Trifecta (of sorts)...

Another lovely day - started with temps in the low 70s, low humidity, and light breeze.  I started my day with an e-bike ride.  When I got back home, Joan had a plate of fresh fruit in bite-size pieces - most refreshing after the bike ride.  We had our fruit out on the deck.  Rufus joined us, and I took him down to the boat...

He wasn't so sure about it.  We left him home when we shoved off with the boat.  Heading out the canal...

No plan, no destination - just wanting to enjoy some time on the water.  It wasn't long before we got our first view of some friends we hadn't seen in a while...

A large sportfisher came by, kicking about a 5' wake - it chased away the dolphins for a while...

So, we did some bird watching...

Scads of birds in the mangroves on Dead Pecker Island.

And, then some dolphins again...

Up close and personal - looking right down the blow hole...

No aerobatics, but plenty of good viewing.

A couple tails waving good-bye as we moved on...

On the way back, more birds...

This shot cracked me up: it is a spoonbill, shot directly from the side - it looks like a rubber chicken...

And, where you can see the wings...

Heading for home, Homeland Security went by; surprisingly, not at a high rate of speed.  They may have been looking for anything interesting on the back side of the island...

Yeah, 4 big outboards on the back of that bad-boy; and they aren't kicking a wake.  There's something you don't see every day.

Back at our dock, I gave the boat a thorough scrubbing while Joan made us some outstanding brunch sandwiches.  A brunch sandwich is the same thing as a breakfast sandwich, but later.  ;-)

A change of clothes, and a change of conveyances: scooter time!

We swung by the elementary school so I could grab a scooter tag.  Then, followed it up with a new tag...

Your scooter with a sign about kids who don't move fast or have a low IQ.  ;-)  Yes, I know: I am going to Hell... I'll see some of you there.

On with the ride: traffic was pretty thick as we rode through town and across the causeway.  I am guessing the easing of restrictions that starts today has a lot of people looking for a change of scenery... and South Padre Island is a good place for that.  Unlike the last time I was here on my scoot, there are plenty of people here; restaurants are open, some even have their inside seating open (not just curbside pickup).  The parking at the beach access areas was mostly full.  We didn't go to the beach, but I expect there were plenty of people on it... hopefully following the social distancing guidelines, so the beach doesn't get closed down again.

We stopped at the Wyland Whaling Wall at the South Padre Island Convention Center...

Yes, Joan has taken my photo here before - this mural makes me smile.  No, there are no Orcas in the Gulf.

The breeze kicked up during the afternoon, giving us a 25mph crosswind coming back across the causeway.  Both scoots handled it just fine.

Back home, we got in some more deck time.  Time to talk about our day... the first outing with the boat this season; first time we've been out on the scoots together since we got home.  And first that we have been able to enjoy some up close and personal time with the dolphins.  Nice way to start this new month.
