The roads going west through Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis are actually worse than the shit road (I-40) going east. We only did 254 miles today, but it felt like a lot more. Joan said, "This road is worse than anything we drove in Mexico." (years ago) I have to agree with that.
We are making our way west, no intent to stop at Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch or the town of Bucksnort (I just like the name). One stop for fuel at a Pilot, then we parked with the big trucks and went in to get a bite to eat... that we brought back to the motorhome. It is warm and muggy as we head west, so we had the generator running the air conditioning so Murphy stayed comfortable while we went into the Pilot.
Today's photos: Murphy checking out the birds before we left this morning...
Before we rolled, I set up all 3 map displays - pretty sure I won't get lost...
Yes, the windshield cover is still on in that photo above.
We left the campground this morning at 9:50, and almost immediately ran into bumper to bumper traffic in Nashville...
On the bright side, with the traffic as slow-moving as it was, the shit roads didn't seem quite so bad in that hour it took to go about 20 miles.
We are down for the day at Memphis KOA... which isn't actually in Memphis, but is about 10 miles north on the Arkansas side of the Mississippi River. Some fun facts about Memphis: home of Elvis's Graceland mansion (in spite of what you might read in the Inquirer, Elvis is still dead); Stax and Sun Records... Memphis also has the distinction of having the highest crime rate in the US (take that Detroit and South Chicago)... glad we aren't actually in Memphis.
This KOA offers BBQ dinners and some breakfast offerings. Call in your order for dinner, and they deliver it to your RV (no, that isn't included in the price). Also not included in the price: they charge an extra $5 for a pet. Yes, even one like Murphy who will not be going outside during our overnight stay here... it gripes me when a campground nickel & dimes you. I'll report later on how the BBQ dinner is.
