Kinda like a "doomsday clock" only without the nuclear holocaust. We are officially in countdown mode.
I did get a ride in this morning (a video will be coming in a day or two, probably); I passed by Iron Mountain Road and headed for Needles Highway instead. It was a cool start to the day, not quite 60º; I wore a jacket with a liner in it. First time since we got here.
Back home, it was time for lunch. I made bacon cheeseburgers and corn on the cob on the griddle. Tasty! Then, time to clean and disassemble the griddle. Joan is an expert packer and has an idea in her head where things will go.
I made a trip to the lodge to visit with one of the nice ladies in Reservations. We have to move on Monday. The site they put us in is an issue for us. Well, it wasn't an issue when they first scheduled our move. And then, "The Neighbors" moved in to the site next to it. These people were across the street from us when we first got to the site we are currently in. They are LOUD. Not loud music. At 5:00 in the morning, the guy goes to work. Every morning, the dog gets loose before he leaves. He hollers at it; the wife comes out, slams the door, and hollers at the dog. The three kids come out, each slamming the door a minimum of 3 times each, and they holler at the dog. They get the dog wrangled, then more door slamming. Then the guy starts his extremely loud Harley, and leaves around 5:15. Then the wife gets the three kids into their truck and each of them slams the door on their 5th wheel, then the doors on the truck, then someone hollers that they forgot something, so there is more door slamming when they go back into the 5th wheel, more door slamming when they come out, and the final 12 door slams as they get into their truck. If that was obnoxious for you to read, imagine getting to hear it all between 5:00 and 5:30 every morning. We were relieved when after about 10 days with then as neighbors, they moved to another site. Imagine the horror when 3 days ago, they were moved to the site next to where we are supposed to be for our last two days here! 😩
So, back to the lodge and Reservations. The nice lady asked if there was a problem with that site that I wanted to change sites. After a big sigh, I explained the situation in much less detail than above. She pulled up that site number that the noisy family is now on and said, "Oh, yes; I understand completely. You are not the first to not want to be around them." She found us another site.
About 20 minutes later, I got a call from the head of Security here. The nice lady in Reservations called him, explained the situation, and he called me. I explained to him that this is not a complaint... "No, I don't think they are intentionally being loud... No, they weren't aggressive to us or anyone else that I am aware of." I think the resort was looking for an excuse to boot them out. I was not going to be that excuse. Some people just don't consider how loud they are AND at 5:00 in the morning. And even though the sites here are significantly larger than most RV parks, you are still pretty darn close to your neighbor. In all the years we have owned here, I have never heard that amount of door slamming.
It doesn't matter, because we are now scheduled in a different part of the resort for our last couple days here. We have to start the coach up and go get an oil change in the morning (yes, on a Sunday morning). When we get back from that, we will just move onto the next site a day ahead of time. They're all good sites here (well, except in the Meadows, aka as Purgatory Flats), so it doesn't matter much. We try to get a site away from the activities (seems that there is a lot of demand for sites close to the Lodge and the activities).
Once that was all taken care of, we started packing stuff in our gear storage compartment in the back of the coach...
While Joan went about cleaning and positioning things, I started on the process to sanitize our fresh water holding tank. Yes, I did that before we left home, but that water has been sitting in there for a while now, so better to re-sanitize...
It all takes time. And we have that right now... better to do it at our leisure than have to work like crazy on the last day. Who knows, I may even get another ride in before we strap down the bikes. :-)
