Changes to come...

Riding my bike around this morning, I see plenty of empty sites in the resort.  The newsletters tell us that reservations are up for this month and next, and we are hearing that more people intend to spend the winter here, in their RV.  As opposed to going south for the winter.  The resort does have a number of sites that have electric meters, and people don't have to move from their site every 21 days.  People staying here through the winter are allowed to have large propane tanks delivered to their site.  We are seeing boxes placed at some sites that will go over the water connections for insulation.  Still, South Dakota winters can be tough, and RVs don't have the insulation of a typical home.  We have RV traveled in the winter, but always with a coach that had water lines and holding tanks that were in heated compartments.

On the flip side of that, reservations are down for the winter months in many areas in the south.  Our island home is one such place - we are seeing more rental places being advertised, because their winter visitors aren't coming.  As of right now, the US/Canada border is closed, and no indication of when things will open up again.

Many snow birds or winter Texans are leery about their favorite winter destination not having the organized activities they are used to; or not having their winter friends come back.  It will have an economic impact on those winter destination areas.

We have made reservations in Arizona for a couple months this winter, but there is the possibility that won't come to pass.  A lot depends on what is happening with Steph and Dan, and their teaching jobs.  If in-person teaching happens (they are teaching on-line only right now), that is a lot of exposure you can't control.

Right now, we feel safe with our current RV situation: we are able to easily socially distance.  We miss being able to see our local friends and going out to restaurants.  Taking the scoots out and the occasional drive-through or take out.  Rufus gets a couple walks daily, but doesn't understand why he can't go sniff dogs being walked or get pets from strangers.  In a few days, we will start our trek south... and plan to not dally along the way.  We'll eat in the coach and use gloves and take sanitary precautions when we stop for gas.  More than likely, we will make RV park reservations a day in advance instead of the afternoon of.

It will be different.  As we've all come to expect.
