A welcome change...

Not much wind today... and what wind there was came at us as a quartering tailwind most of the day.  The significant difference: almost 50% better fuel mileage!  That equates to an additional 150 miles on a tank of fuel.  The other big difference: we drove more miles and didn't arrive at our stop for the day exhausted.  👍

Must of this post will be about Rufus, because... he's Rufus.  He decided to ride on the dash for the first hour or so...

Another big difference today: most of our miles were on 4-lane or Interstate...

And for a good 80% or so of those miles, the road was decently smooth.  Yes, a good driving day.  Especially after the last two days.

Back to Rufus: he is a bosom boy...

We stopped at a Flying J to fuel up.  After getting the tank full, we pulled aside and went back in to get something to get our bellies full.  We were parked next to a Flying J tanker truck... and maybe a foot or two longer than him...

The routing was pretty easy today, even though we did more miles than the past two days: Amarillo > Lubbock > Abilene.  More traffic today than we have had since we left the Black Hills; but, with 4-lanes, there was no stress that we were holding up any traffic behind us.  The scenery was different today, as well: more agriculture (especially cotton), but still plenty of oil wells and windmills...

And, back to Rufus, and back on the dash...

We thought we might make it without getting rained on today (it poured last night, but we were parked) - just a few sprinkles, but enough to spot up the exterior...

We rolled into our RV park for the night around 4:00.  This is a nice park, pretty new, and nice long pull-through sites...

Once we were set up, as I was coming inside, Joan handed me the leash to take Rufus for a walk.  He walked around in the grass at our site, but decided pretty quickly that the 92º temperature was a bit much.  He sat on the step...

And then let me know that he was done outside and it was time to get into the air conditioning...

Yeah, I get that.  The boy and I are doing a pretty good job with our communication.  Plus, he is a good traveler in the motorhome.  He likes to be up front where we are, generally splitting his time between lap sitting and napping.  We generally stop when it is his lunch time, but if we are making miles, he has no problem with eating while we are rolling.

I think I may have mentioned this before, but... he is a good boy!
