Baby, It's Cold Outside...

If you said, "A song written by Frank Loesser in 1944 and made popular in 1949 in the movie Neptune's Daughter," you get a million bonus points.  If you are a snowflake that thinks this song is offensive, you lose 20 bonus points.

Nothing musical - with the chilly weather out, my fingers would be too stiff to play guitar.  It didn't make it out of the 50s today.  When I rode my bicycle this morning, I put on a skull cap and gloves.  Yep, I don't care to do cold.  Even Rufus with his thick fur coat didn't stay out too long (although I was shivering while walking him).

There was discussion about what to do today: Joan wanted to go into Rapid for some shopping, I thought I might go for a scooter ride.  When noon rolled around and it was only 56ยบ I changed my mind... yeah, shopping doesn't seem so bad.  ;-)

Or, as we in the scooter riding biz say: tomorrow is another day.

I forgot what types of bikes you had?? My wife and I just got 2 E-Bikes / did a ton of research and found a good deal on 2019 models. Most everyone is curious and supportive, but there are a few that call us "cheaters" - mostly the ones in skin tight pants and jerseys. They blow by us and think WE are the nuisance. Due to injuries and arthritis, my wife had not ridden a bike in 20 years - now with this bike she is slowly building stamina and strength, and over time will lessen the "assist" needed. I read where a new bill was passed that all national parks and any trail where traditional bikes are allowed, so are the E-Bikes.

Hi Greg,

Yes, we have heard the "cheater" comments. I just laugh them off. I am OK if they want to dress in "racer" garb and have 21 gears to work with. I am even better with our 6 speed fat tire bikes with 5 pedal assist levels. I can choose between loafing along or making some decent speed. And when riding hilly terrain/trails that pedal assist can be the difference between pedaling up a hill or walking the bike. You have to wonder if those same bike "purists" think it is cheating when they put their bikes on the rack on their European SUV and haul them to the best places to ride? ;-) Of course, I tend to be a "live and let live... or kiss my ass" kinda guy.

We have had our e-bikes for almost 4 years; didn't bring them on this trip because I was still having an issue with that left leg when we left. I having been riding an old, small folder here. I will switch back to my e-bike when we get home. Ours are SRS Trail Vipers. Folders, so we can fit both of them in the back of our CR-V. We have used them in a couple National Parks since we've had them - no issue. Mickelson Trail (a rails to trails) here in the Black Hills, San Juan Island... and in most of our travels the last 4 years. A 25 to 28 mile range on the battery, depending on how much pedal assist you dial in. They do have a twist throttle, as well, but we have never used them on throttle alone, other than to get an occasional boost... so no idea how far they'd go when used like that. 350w hub motor, about a 4 hour recharge time. I know a lot of the newer ones have a 500w motor.

Congrats on yours - hope you enjoy the heck out of them!

It is giving us new life and enthusiasm for sure. RAD bikes with headquarters in Seattle is massively popular with their price point ($1499.00) on all models, they have a huge following and support network, and a great value for the money with a 750 watt motor, integrated lights, rear rack, etc, but they are HEAVY - about 65 LBS. The components are entry level and many have QA issues and parts are breaking and need adjustment. We wanted lighter and class 1 with no throttle, so got his and hers TREK VERVES at a great price. Much lighter at 44 LBS, so lifting on to a bike rack or in to the van is easier. Higher end components with rack and lights. Also likes the mid drive motors vs Hub mounted. The BOSCH is silent. If we keep it is assist level one, we can go about 60 miles.

The San Juans are on the list, as is the railroad tunnel under Snoqualmie Pass. Like I said, mostly kind comments but one jerk was a total ass......and I was feeling feisty - he said my bike was lame and I was cheating...…..I shot back, "so is your wife, so what is your point"? I knew I could out pedal him if needed!! LOL

Safe travels

LOL - Good comeback. I haven't seen a Trek Verve, but those specs sound great. I think RAD bikes have a big portion of the e-bike market these days. They seem pretty similar to our SRS bikes in construction (and weight). Enjoy!
