1%

"You joined a biker gang with your Suzuki scooter and now you're a 1%er?  Your income?  Your IQ?"

No, no, and no.  Yesterday, we saw 1% for outdoor humidity on our weather station.  That's pretty freakin' dry!  We turned on room humidifiers in the music room and our bedroom; after a couple decades in the Tropical Tip, we still mistakenly call them "dehumidifiers."

It's a lovely start to the day: 65º and sunny at 7:00.  The humidity is up to 25%.  After my morning routine, I took Murphy outside... with a difference today: we put his harness and leash on him.  For the last couple months, we have been letting him walk around in the yard on his own, under our watchful eye.  There is the concrete block wall all around the property... and I don't think he is aware of his cat "superpowers" that would allow him to jump to the top of that wall.  As of yet, he hasn't tried, but he has eyed it occasionally.  He has a good life with us, full of lots of attention, belly rubs, good food and treats, and a plethora of cat toys.

Murphy is still "the little guy" to us; smaller than Tango (the smallest of Steph and Dan's cats).  But Murphy has grown: when hooking up his harness this morning, it didn't have to be on the smallest adjustment.

His demeanor was different on the leash compared to being free to roam.  We walked around a bit - he didn't seem as interested in the birds.  He was ready to come back inside sooner...

Taking a rest behind the patio furniture...

Murphy is a morning person: at his most active after we get up.  This morning, though, he has been unusually chill, even before we went out for a walk.  Definitely more angel cat than devil cat.  Is this a sign our little boy is growing up?

As usual, Tango came over to our house for a visit...

What's that new toy?

"You get it!"  "I'm not gonna get it - you get it!"

Not surprising that he reacts differently on his leash, now that he has tasted yard freedom. And he and Tango make a great pair, entertaining each other.

Hi Earl - yeah, I expected Murphy's behavior to be different after being "off leash" - still, he did fine with it. With an extended trip coming up this summer, he is going to learn to be adaptable... and I think he will handle it. It is fun seeing Murph and Tango play together - I think it is good for both of them. If Murphy gets too rambunctious (he is an adolescent still), Tango will go to the door and let us know he wants to go home... but, he is always anxious to come visit.

I hope Murphy learns some of that calm behavior from Tango. ;-)
