Giggling...

You know the joyous giggle sound an infant makes when they first see a jack-in-the-box or play peekaboo?  Yeah, that was me today.

Warm and a bit breezy today, but a good day to be out on the water.  I was saying to Joan how I don't remember these fronts coming in at the rate of about one a week.  She reminded me that we just put on foul weather gear, put a reef in the sail, and went out.  These days, I have gotten softer - scooting or boating, I like having a nice weather day.

We took the boat out early this afternoon.  The wind was blowing around 12 to 14, lots of sunshine, the temperature pushing 80º.

It was long before...

Yes, a bit of tail disappearing behind the dorsal fin.

Something about this encounter today felt different: this pod seemed to be smaller; curious, but moving faster through the water.  They reminded me more of the harbor porpoise we'd see in the Pacific Northwest, but these are our bottlenose.

There were a lot of them, and they were all around the boat.  Instead of getting to see some faces, this group seemed to be playing peekaboo: one would come up a ways ahead of us, and when we'd look that direction, two would pop up right next to the boat!

Close, but fast!

It has been a while since we've seen any of the Cruz fleet of shrimpboats...

Which led to some fun bow surfing..

And more peekaboo...

The "pop-ups" happened too often and too fast to be a coincidence - they seemed to be having fun, and they sure made me laugh!

We got ready to say good-bye and head for home...

Along the way, we watched this pelican, just before landing...

This asshole came by us, kicking lots of wake (in a no wake zone), much closer than he needed to be...

And some bird posers...

The wind is supposed to be in the upper teens through the night, 21mph by 9:00 am, and mid-20s gusting higher through the day tomorrow.  Glad we got out today.

It's the holiday season... I made a call to Santa. That guy won't even get coal, but rather reindeer shit in his stocking. ;-)
