No, I didn't ask Joan who she likes better: Rufus or me... some things are best not known.
Today would be what my friend (and hiker extrodinaire) would call "taking a zero day." For him, that means: no hiking for the day. It may be due to weather or needing to stock up on supplies. But it isn't his normal hike for a gazillion miles day. Today, we didn't get down the road (would it be up the road since we will be heading north??), but we did some running around.
One of my usual stops in San Antonio is...
Yep, the SAS General Store. You like to shop for shoes? Not particularly, and that's why this place is good for me - they have shoes that will fit my Fred Flintstone size feet. I went in, my favorite shoe specialist Maria helped me, and I got shoes that look pretty much like the rest of my shoe wardrobe - but a slightly different style and in a double wide width. For me, that is a big deal. Oh, sure, Joan found some cool new sneaks, but she can buy shoes anywhere. She gets them here occasionally, when she wants something comfortable with good support. They are not cheap, but they are good.
Plus, it's generally kind of interesting to wander around the General Store...
You have to appreciate a store that has cool cars scattered around (most of them outside).
From there, it was time for lunch... and I had something specific in mind...
They make a Double-Double Burger that is just the right size for my tummy. There are a few of them in Texas now, but nothing near our home. It has been over a year since I had an In-N-Out burger, and my taste buds were ready.
Before heading back to the coach, we stopped at a large HEB grocery store. These are a Texas standard... and there are some big HEBs in San Antonio. We have a small one at home, but the one we went in was at least twice the size... "Oh, look at this ready to cook meal! Oh, look - Cheeseburger Soup! I've never had Cheeseburger Soup, so we need to get that!" They even had salads that looked good; and, no, I didn't go in there hungry.
Mother Nature pounded us with rain about 4:00 this morning... thunderbolt and lightning, very very frightening, Galileo. Apparently, Rufus was concerned that I would be frightened by all the commotion, so he snuggled up to me for the next 45 minutes or so.
The overcast left behind gave us 75º when I got up this morning. And left behind the humidity that we thought we left at the coast. That's OK, I will be in air conditioned comfort when I take a nap this afternoon. ;-)
There was about 3 seconds of consideration for a trip down to the Riverwalk... but, there is a week of fiestas happening right now, and it was sure to be a big crowd and not enough parking. We passed. Back on the road again tomorrow.
