Turtles and dolphins...

No, we didn't go out in the boat today.  Another windy day.  I waited until noon to get a bike ride in, and that was during a bit of a lull.  These turtles and dolphins came from our Small Business shopping yesterday.

We have had wooden dolphin and turtle wall decor on the wall above our glass doors and windows on the side of the house that faces the canal.  I was thinking we were due to upgrade those.  One of the shops we were in yesterday had a striking turtle grouping and a modern dolphin group, both made of metal.

There is a carved wood tarpin that stays.  Three wooden pieces that came down.  With the shape of the wall space, it needed something else to help fill the space.  The wood pieces that were up there before looked drab compared to these new pieces... I suggested to Joan that we could maybe paint the better looking of the dolphin pieces so that it would work with the new ones.  Joan went right to work on that...

Yes, in the wind... although it was quite protected from the northeast wind on our dock.  Joan used a paint that dries to look like pounded metal.  When it was dry, we held it up to the other new pieces, and both felt they looked good together.  Joan did the ladder work, while I stepped back and made the positioning suggestions.  It adds a new look to that area...

Rufus approved...

"Well, maybe a bit to the right on that one."  ;-)

One other turtle addition from a few days ago: Joan didn't want to put up a typical hose reel at the front of the house; she found a hinged sea turtle that hold the hose inside...

The hose from the wall spigot goes in the back, the hose is reeled up inside the turtle.  Looks a bit like a turtle enema to me...
