Hot enough for ya?

I saw on the local weather this past week that the Phoenix area typically has 178 days with a high temperature over 90º.  Yep, that's what this week has been like.

We met Steph and Dan for breakfast, as has become our Saturday morning tradition since we've been here; they found an Italian restaurant that serves breakfast and it has been our go-to.  Last night, Joan and I were talking about the bikes and she asked, "Do you want to ride the bikes to breakfast in the morning?  Then after that, we can get a ride in before it gets too hot."

It took me less than a nanosecond to answer: "Absolutely!"

It was 67º when we left the motorhome at 7:40.  Seeing "the kids" and breakfast was a nice start to the day.  The ride to the restaurant is about 20 minutes and it was refreshingly cool.  When we left the restaurant, it was up to 77º... still OK with a mesh jacket on.  We decided to ride north; now this may make me sound like even more of a geezer, but it is a pleasant ride through the Sun City area, with their parkway roads (divided) and 45 mph speed limits.  And greenery - nice to see grass and green landscaping.  We continued north to the Lake Pleasant area; by this point, it was getting warm when we had to stop for red lights.  Loop 303 runs by this area, so we hopped on that, with the 65mph speed limit.

At some point (around 86º for me), even running at speed isn't enough to keep you cool with a mesh jacket on.  In my younger years, I would have wet down the shirt I was wearing and let "evaporative cooling" do its thing.  Today, we turned the bikes south towards our RV park.  Jumping off Loop 303, we took some surface roads for the change of scenery.  By the time we got back to the motorhome, it was pushing 90º.

Yep, air conditioning feels good.  Still, it was a good desert ride.
