You Say It's Your Birthday...

We're gonna have a good time...

If you said, "The Beatles, 1968," you get 20 bonus points.  If you said, "Um, I don't think it's your birthday, Jim," you are right, but no bonus points.  It is my good friend and music partner Mark's birthday.  I won't say how old he is, but he's 69.  Insert your own adolescent joke here.

We got a cake for him, a Guitar Center gift certificate, and the 4 of us went out for lunch.  Cindy picked a Mexican restaurant, but held her breath, concerned we might not all like it.  No worry, the food was great, the company, as always, fun.  We went back to their house after lunch; before sitting down to play some music, we sang Happy Birthday to Mark and had him cut the cake...

For those not in the know - that is a carrot cake (Mark's favorite) from Nothing Bundt Cakes.  And, everybody getting in a photo with the birthday boy...

After the cake, Mark and I settled in his music room for one more afternoon of making music.  We made it a fun day of music, inviting the ladies to try a turn on the cajon, and just playing songs; no recording.  We'll get back to that remotely another time.  Joan picked a couple songs, Mark and I each pulled out some originals we've done together, and a bunch of other songs.  It was a great session.

The afternoon passed way too fast, and it was time to pack up the gear I had at his place and load it up.  Hugs all around, one more Happy Birthday declaration, and out to our car to take on the Phoenix traffic.  I will miss playing in person with my friend; hope we made this last birthday in his 60s memorable.

Happy Birthday, Mark! Carrot cake is my favorite too -- nature's most perfect food.

Oh, so close, Earl. Checking further, it has been determined that bacon is nature's most perfect food. It can be a main dish, a side dish, a sandwich component, an appetizer, or dessert; a delight for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. One could have bacon at each meal indefinitely, where carrot cake loses some of its appeal after 5 or 6 days of having it at each meal. Not that it's a contest... but if it were, bacon wins. Just saying. ;-)
