Rufus likes it! It's where he first came to live with us.
We closed down the house, put down the hurricane shutters, shut off water, loaded up the Equinox and headed for our storage unit. Ruf did fine in the car, too, especially when he could see that we weren't going to the vet.
It's a chilly and windy day. The overcast sky is pleasant for driving; I could do without the 15 mph headwind.
The thing that took the longest to get set up today was the bicycle rack and cover for the back of the Equinox. We tried that on the Honda CRV years ago, but the hitch was a bit too low; works fine on the Equinox. Joan bought a cover to try to protect them while underway - test run with that today.
We made this an easy day, intentionally. It is nice to get off the road early so we can dump and refresh our tanks after sanitizing them. That takes a while to do it right.
The RV park we are in has nice long, level, paved, pull-thru sites, with all the utilities placed right...
You can see that bike cover that hides the rear of the Equinox, the reason for the lights mounted on the top of the car.
We are settling in. There was still today's haul from home to be put away and that fresh water tank and lines to finish sanitizing. Rufus is chilling beside me as I write this...
We'll need to run some heat tonight - the low is going to be in the 40s.
This is also the first test of using Visible (our phone carrier after moving on from Verizon) since leaving our home area. As expected, it is exactly the same service, and our hotspots are working just fine.
Tomorrow, we start making miles.

"On the road again....". Safe travels and keep your good-luck Rufus nearby.
We dumped Verizon this past week, and switched to AT&T via Patriot Mobile. Our monthly bill will be half of the Verizon amount. There were a few technical issues, mostly because Apple forced me to update (arrggghhh) to the latest iOS as part of the process. Every time a software update comes along, I have to spend 2-3 hours fixing my phone.... the one that previously worked perfectly before the alleged "upgrade". Verizon had good coverage but were really annoying me. I was getting multiple texts and emails each month. "Your bill is cooing due soon". "Here is your bill to pay on line". And after the check had cashed, "Your bill is now past due". I thought about calling them to stop the reminders, but found a better solution.
Alice is in Florida for a flute conference right now, leaving me home to watch "the kids". We have texted back and forth. When she has time, she will call me and we can test the voice coverage. So far, so good.
Hi Earl - yes, Rufus is by my side (or on my lap) when we're rolling. This evening, I took him for a walk; there is a sweet acting orange cat (the office staff said someone just left it two months ago - they have been feeding it) walking around. Rufus did not take kindly to that orange cat trying to be friends... a lot of hissing and growling on his part, but no overt moves towards the orange tabby that is just looking for someone to love him. His expression looks sad.
We switched from Verizon just because the cost kept increasing. Visible (owned by Verizon) has been what we are used to, for a lot less $$. They have no customer service reps that you can talk to - everything is done by on-line chat. Other than initially getting set up, we haven't had a need to contact their "service". Good luck with Patriot Mobile. I'm with you on the "updates"... I hold my breath to see what they messed with.
Feels good to be in the RV again!
