We made a plan last night: get up early and drive further than the original plan. The reasons: we gain two time zones today - Central into Mountain Time Zone just west of Van Horn, where we spent the night; Arizona (which doesn't change for Daylight Saving Time) and is on Pacific Time this time of year. Plus, we can see about getting the trailer jack replaced early, if we get in early enough. And then we can sleep in tomorrow and have a day off from driving, and still get into Phoenix early Thursday afternoon.
Leaving Van Horn at 0 Dark: 30...
I was impressed that the Insta360 Go 3 got anything usable in that darkness. And then the first light of dawn...
Looking back in the mirror to the east...
Rolling into El Paso before 7:30...
And still got slowed down by heavy traffic...
A stop for fuel at Exit 0, then into New Mexico...
Signs about blowing dirt/dust, and the chance for zero visibility...
Some New Mexico terrain...
Into Arizona (and the second time zone change), making it a "3 state day"...
A stop at the rest area at Texas Canyon (in Arizona)...
Rufus catching a nap on the dash...
Before going to the RV park, we stopped at the trailer repair place. They sent us next door to the trailer supply place to see if they had a jack that would work for us... nope, more of the same of what we have. The guy at the sales counter there asked if I had a minute to step out back... "Sure." He showed me a jack on a small flatbed trailer that was exactly what I was looking for. (The same one we had picked out on-line.) He told us we could get it at Tractor Supply Co.
After topping up the fuel tank on the coach, we went to the RV park, got checked in and set up. Rufus got a mid-afternoon meal, then Joan and I went to TSC... and, yes, they had the jack.
Back to the coach where we installed the new jack. Now, we can really kick back for a day. Sorta. Joan wants to get some laundry done while we have a "day off."
I took Rufus for a walk this evening, where he got to be adored by several people... including one couple who were putting the cover on their Harley. The woman gushed over Rufus. The guy admitted that he loves cats, and... "She (the wife) made me take our last cat out in a baby stroller."
"Made you? You're a big guy. I'm guessing you liked it, too."
I think we'll go to bed early tonight.
