Getting busy...

Not that.  I got to deal with the air conditioner repair guy this morning.  Of course, the fan on the a/c was running like a champ.  He checked things, said it all looks good, and to call him right away if the fan doesn't work again - he needs to see what is going on when it isn't working.

I also got a call from the place in Arizona where we have been trying to make a reservation for next winter.  It hasn't been a straight-forward dealing.  But, I stayed on it, and we have a site.

A mostly overcast day, but in the upper 70s - good time for a ride on the Vespa.  As I left our island, I swung by the boat place... just to take a look.  Our boat was sitting by their gate, and it looked like the bottom paint was done.  No, I didn't stop.

Out for a ride, and a stop to take a photo...

Yes, those are some big chairs.  On my way home, I got a call from by buddy Angel: "Your boat is done."

"I'm on my bike right now, but I'll head home, get the SUV, and be there within a half hour."  I wrote him a check, we hooked up the boat to the Honda and headed for home.  The bottom paint looks good...

Decision time: the boat is seriously dirty - do we clean it up first in the driveway, or launch it and clean it up at the dock?  Well, the first order of business is to put a set of muffs on the motor, get some water flowing to it, and make sure the motor is working (we serviced it right before we put it away last year).  Yep, all good.  We decided to launch now, so we hooked the boat up again and took it around to the ramp on our island.  Joan got the gate to the ramp while I backed the trailer down; just before the water, I got on the boat, and she backed it in.  Fired up the motor, double checked everything, then I backed it off the trailer.  While I headed for home, Joan flushed the trailer, drove back to our place, parked it in our driveway, then came down to our dock to catch lines.  My trip around is a bit longer by water...

And then, home...

Joan worked on the cover, up on our deck, while I went to work scrubbing down the seats and floor of the boat.  Grubby!  She finished her part before me, so she put all the trailering stuff away, then brought Rufus down to help me clean the boat...

"That's a people potty - where's the litter box?"  ^  And then, "Hey, what's in here?"...

While cleaning, I heard a rumble in the distance - no doubt about that sound: SpaceX is launching another rocket (SN15).  Last we heard, a launch time was scheduled between May 8th and 10th.  They are pretty good at keeping people guessing.  Alas, with the overcast, we couldn't see the rocket going up.  Joan got out her iPad, and we watched some of the live feed from the rocket...

Not quite the same as being able to see it "in person," but with the roar, you could tell right where it was.  We watched it reach the designated altitude, roll onto its side, then free-fall.  At the prescribed height, the engines fired up, the rocked turned upright, and on the video, it looked like another explosion at landing... nope, when the image cleared, the rocket was upright, on its landing feet.  As we have seen before, a fire broke out near the bottom of the rocket, and we held our breath... after a long 5 minutes (one of the previous rockets exploded at this point), the flames went out and... a successful launch AND landing!  This will give the SpaceX personnel the actual rocket to check out, instead of looking at computerized readouts and debris.  Congratulations to the Boca Chica Team SpaceX!!

With that excitement out of the way, I went back to work on the boat.  Even though it was in our storage unit, it came out of there dusty.  Leaving it at the boat shop, it got rained on Friday and Saturday, turning that dust into grubby mud.  You know all those boat ads, where people are smiling, and they're cruising along on smooth blue water... yeah, they don't show you how much work it is to keep up a boat.  Especially after it has been sitting for 11 months.  We left for the summer last year, then, once home, dealing with that pesky prostate cancer situation, didn't put the boat in until today.

My ass was dragging when I finished, and I headed for a soak in the tub... and ibuprofen and an adult beverage.  Maybe tomorrow (we have other stuff to do first), I'll get our stuff loaded back in the boat and perhaps even get a ride in.  Maybe my lack of enthusiasm for boating will return with some time onboard?  All the work today sure didn't get me fired up for it.  ;-)
