Last night was a big deal for us: out to a concert. In public. We had tickets for Marc Cohn at MIM (Music Instrument Museum) that we bought before Christmas. We missed one concert while we were both down for the count. I wore a mask - mostly to cover my scabbed up nose. It, too, is on the mend.
The concert was outstanding. Cohn is most famous for his song Walking In Memphis. I wasn't familiar with his other originals, but they were all soulful and well-done. We were fortunate to have seats in the middle, second row... up close.
The two guys accompanying him are excellent musicians. I was especially intrigued by the percussionist - he got an outstanding array of sounds out of a cajon, djembe, and a snare. Cohn played guitar on a couple songs, allowing his other bandmate to be featured on keyboards, including my favorite: a Hammond B3.
The concert was outstanding. Low-key for an enthusiastic audience (we were at the second show at 8:30). The venue at MIM is outstanding (Joan says I say that every time we are there). The theater is beautifully designed and intimate feeling. Every seat is good - second row center is outstanding.
It was good to see Mark (Lamkin) and Cindy again. Good to be out and about. Nice evening.

Glad you are out and about again. That has to feel good. I agree that the MIM theater is a great room. I got to study it in some detail when we were last there by talking to staff and mentioning that I was an acoustical engineer and helped design such rooms.
They had a special Steinway piano there for a concert and the performer was practicing for part of our visit to the room. That piano is no longer on display, but they still have it in storage IIRC. It is weird -- a combination of orange and bright green and fluorescent yellow. Really wild, man.
I thought of you when we were in that theater - the acoustics in there are very nice. No big PA that shows. Tasteful lighting. The stepped theater seating gives everyone a good view.
Yes, it is good to get out and about after our "exile." Even after testing negative, we both felt wiped for days.
