The Desert In The Winter...

That covers a lot of territory.  The climate will depend greatly on the elevation.  The elevation will make a big difference in how cold it can be.  You've probably read here that I think winters are cold in the desert - I stand by that, especially overnight and into the morning.  It was in the low 40s this morning.  We are having a bit of a cold spell right now - it didn't get out of the upper 50s for the day.  Lows are supposed to be in the 30s over the weekend.

Not like either of us are going to be out in it right now, as we both recuperate.  We did get out into the yard a bit, though.  For a short time.  Joan went out to tend her plants - they all seem to be doing well.  I took Murphy for a couple walks in the yard.  The little furry boy is doing good with his leash training... it will be a while before we're ready to move beyond the yard, but it is nice to have this space to work with; it gives Murphy a decent work out.  He needs more work on the light right or left tug on the leash so he knows which way to turn, but it has barely been a week (allowing a few days off for his Mom and Dad).

In the middle of the afternoon, with a light cool west breeze, I was taking in some of the differences between here and the Tropical Tip: 58º and a cool breeze would mean a jacket and a stocking cap for me back in Texas.  Here, Joan and I were both in jeans and a sweatshirt... and it felt pretty decent outside.  Plenty of blue sky, with a few white puffy clouds.  Neither place would pass for winter in the frozen northland, but this is pretty bearable.  And even with his shaved belly (which is just starting to fuzz up), Murphy was fine out walking around.

Back inside, Murph got more time with his new toy.  Joan had to go to putting it in the garage every so often so he could take a break.  Even when the mechanized rotating and vibrating stops (after 10 minutes), Murphy continues to bat it around.  He is a happy boy.  And then, he needs some rest...

Such a sweet little boy.  And this next photo cracks me up...

It's the perspective of his legs being closer to the camera - he looks like a weight-lifter!  "We want to pump you up!"  That furry thing he is laying on is a cushy thing Joan got him at the same time as the new toy; it reminds me of a neck pillow.  He lays in it, on it, or wraps a leg around it.  He likes his new stuff.

Right now, he is laying on the couch between us.  All 3 of us are content with this.  He is learning that we like contact; he sat on Joan's lap for a while this afternoon.  It makes my heart happy.
