Into West Texas...

Rolling east - across the rest of New Mexico and a couple hours into West Texas.  Only two more driving days and we should be across West Texas.  No, I am not kidding.

I mentioned the RV park we stayed in last night - at 9:30 this morning, the park only had a couple RVs left in it...

I understand why.  We drove across the rest of the "Land of Enchantment" state.  As you come down the hill, heading into Las Cruces, the scenery gets better...

And then, into Texas...

We stopped at the Flying J at Exit 0... the fuel price was 60¢ per gallon higher than when we came through here in January.  We stopped there for lunch, for all of us: Joan got us chow from Mickey D's, Rufus got his favorite cat food.  We thought we were timing things good for getting through El Paso... traffic always seems crazy there.  Quite a few road changes since the last time we went through there eastbound: some new road and plenty of construction.  Through most of the 37 miles of Interstate through El Paso, the lanes had been narrowed down.  I got a cramp in my left leg - I figured out it was from my toes trying to grip the floor of the motorhome, through my shoes!  With the heavy traffic and narrow lanes, it was a bit stressful, but we made it through unscathed.  I breathed a sigh of relief when the lanes widened out to normal once again.

I-10 is a major east/west trucking corridor...

The photo above was after we were through El Paso.  No possibility of getting a photo while going through El Paso.  I really think they took 3 good lanes and made them into 4 skinny lanes - you really notice it when you have a semi beside you... or on both sides of you!

The next stop was at the Sierra Blanca check-point...

Border Patrol.  Definitely profiling: when I pulled up, the officer said, "Have a nice day!" and waved us through.  Two vehicles in front of us, they wanted to see the driver's ID.  We noticed a difference today: all of the agents were wearing bullet-proof vests.

You know all that stuff that you order from Amazon Prime?  I don't recall seeing Amazon trucks on the road before - they were a regular sight today...

On towards Van Horn, our intended stop for the night.  On the way, another regular sight: trucks hauling CanAm motorcycle trikes...

There is a large CanAm/SeaDoo distributor just east of El Paso - somebody is buying those trikes.

A view before getting to Van Horn...

And this:

Two time zones since we left Phoenix.  Yes, you can get "jet lagged" while RVing!

There is a small RV park we've stayed in before in Van Horn.  Nothing fancy, but the sites are level, and the nice lady that runs it gives us two sites so we don't have to unhook.  And, with our Passport America card, the price is about 1/3 of what we paid last night... and this park has better cable TV.  And, really, it isn't like Lordsburg is a better stop than Van Horn... although I have poked a bit of fun at Van Horn, as being the site of the Annual Blowing Dirt Festival (Jan 1 through Dec 31).  Or, that this part of Texas would be the insertion point if you were giving the country an enema.  Yes, that's a joke.

And speaking of blowing dirt, the wind was in our favor today: occasionally a crosswind, but more often a quartering tailwind.  That's a good thing, especially when you pull up to the gas pump.

More than 400 miles to go to get out of West Texas, so that is more than 1 day's driving for us.  Another 300 or so miles today.

Joan is happy: we can hear the wail of a train horn at our RV site... she likes that.
