That's hot...

If you said, "Paris Hilton," you lose 300 bonus points.  Just for general purpose.

The weather weasels have been predicting "cold fronts" over the past couple weeks.  None have materialized.  Today may be the day.  They are talking about it on an hour by hour basis... our temperatures should drop from the low 90s to the 60s from mid-afternoon and into the evening, with a high on the coast tomorrow of 72º.  We have not seen 72º since we left the Black Hills.

Time to get a ride in this morning.  It was 83º when I got up at 6:30.  After breakfast, I got bikes out...

Heading off our island...

And through town...

The plan: take the newly finished road to the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge.  The road construction has been on-going for well over a year.  Prior to that, the road was so full of potholes and breaks in the surface, that it was too unpleasant to drive.  Roads leading to the road that leads to the Refuge have been redone, as well.  We anticipate smooth riding.

Just coming onto the highway on the far side of Laguna Vista...

When I say the roads are flat and straight around here, this is what I mean...

Well, if you search hard, you can find a curve or two, but nothing that is entertaining to ride...

Off the main highway and onto the new road leading to the Refuge: they did an interesting job of lining things up...

On the bright side, the road really is smooth...

Well, except for the rumble strips they have cut into the lane to remind you that the speed limit on this road is 25 mph.  And then, the good road abruptly ends...

Riding on for a bit, it was more like riding off-road...

Fugly.

After turning around, we saw that we missed the entrance to the Refuge headquarters, because there is absolutely no signage, and it sits back off the main road a ways behind thick trees and brush.  With the heat, we weren't planning on stopping at the headquarters to walk around, but it would be good to let people know it is there.

Riding back home...

If you can't see it, it reads 93º on the outside air temp display.  And, in the words of the philosopher Paris Hilton: "That's hot."  ;-)

Bring on the cold front.  For the record, it will be a one-day event, into the 80s on Sunday, 90s on Monday.
