Live to Ride (part 2)...

Ride to Shop.  We don't always stop to eat when we're out riding.  More on this in a bit.

I'm not the only one going to a doctor: Rufus had his annual check-up today.  A rabies shot and a general look-over is on the agenda.  Ruf does not like being hauled around in his carrier.  Joan put it in the living room yesterday, with the door off... he went right in.  But this morning, she carried Rufus on her lap and we put him in the carrier once we got to the vet's office.

We had to wait for a few minutes (nothing like my last couple of medical check-up appointments) and visited with other people in the waiting area.  Two girls had a two year old cat that reminded us of Smoke, our first cat; and roughly half the size of Rufus.

Speaking of "the size of Rufus," we were anxious to see how much he weighs.  Appearances and lifting the furry boy suggest that he has grown since his visit at this time last year.  When the vet tech put him on the scale... 16.8 pounds.  Yep, he has grown; just over 10% since last year.  Dr Julie asked what we are feeding him and agreed that he is not being over-fed (he gets the same amount of food as Izzy did when she weighed 8 pounds)... "Maybe you will have to get him more exercise."  Which brings to mind the old saying: You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make a cat exercise.  He does enjoy his naps.

We stopped at Bed, Bath, and Beyond when we were in Harlingen yesterday... they are closing that store and had very little inventory left.  It was a good excuse to ride the scoots to Brownsville this afternoon...

We were looking for a carbonator for our Soda Stream; this trip was for naught - sounds like Soda Stream is going to be eliminating the large size carbonator that we use.  We like to make our own caffeine-free diet soda and diet tonic.  Those aren't always easy to find at the grocery store, plus it eliminates putting more plastic bottles in the trash.  That may change.

It is a windy day here, and we had wind at 18 gusting to 27, mostly as a cross wind, both ways.  But, it was an outing... and any reason to ride is a good reason.

Speaking of riding: this morning on Facebook, this was the FB Memory...

From 5 years ago - big surprise: we were out on the scoots.  We no longer have the Honda PCXes; our current scoots are more highway-capable.  One thing I have noticed since making that change: people rarely come up to us in parking lots to comment about "how fun those look."  Even though Joan's Xmax is a stronger performer than my Vespa, I do get the occasional Vespa-related comment or question... generally along the lines of "Is that a real Vespa?"  ;-)  People seem to know that a Vespa is a scooter; I don't think they know what to make of the Xmax.

Jim,
Would you send me a picture of the carbonator you need and the sizes ?

Hi Bill - the carbonator we like is the 130ml size. They are discontinuing that size. We also have two Soda Streams (one for the house, one for the motorhome). It was perfect when spending extended time on the boat, since we didn't have to deal with plastic bottles and storage was more of an issue. We will just pick up the 60ml size in the future. Seems that the new Soda Streams are a slimmer design and use the smaller carbonators. If you are using the 130ml size, you can exchange those for the 60ml size until May 31st... after that, it is just the smaller size. We have 4 of that bigger size that we'll be trading in.

Jim,
I guess I misunderstood, I thought you were trying to replace what you had and they had discontinued it.

I quit using mine when they stopped making the flavors I used.
