Traffic...

If you said, "An English rock band, formed in Birmingham, in April 1967 by Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood and Dave Mason," you get 5,000 bonus points.

That, however is not what this post is about.  Warm, humid, light breeze... a good day for a boat ride.  The water is pretty, a bit more green than turquoise today.  Coming out of our canal, we heard two different tugs exchanging position reports... seems that we will be right between them.  I motored us out to the turning basin, where I had seen a dolphin or two; more than the dolphin watching, I wanted to check out the tugs.  Well, while we're waiting...

Those roofs at the top of that image are the Sea Cottages on our island (for some idea of how close we are).  Here comes the first tug and barge...

Watching them cross just south of the turning basin...

Some pelican traffic on the commercial docks...

Tug and barges...

A dolphin and pelicans sharing space...

The eastbound tug called a shrimpboat that was coming out, "Shrimpboat in the Port Isabel turning basin, plan for a pass on the 2"

No response.

The tug captain repeated the radio call, with a bit more force.  Finally, the shrimpboat driver came back (often, they aren't listening on the radio) and said (in broken English), "No, on the 1."

They were getting closer to each other, and it was obvious the tug captain was maneuvering the barges to a dock in the turning basin... he said, "You will pass on the two - there isn't room for you on the one.  NOW!"  The shrimper finally started his turn.

There was a bit more radio exchange... the shrimper was in the wrong, but they aren't used to anyone telling them what to do.  We were close enough to watch it unfold.

The shrimpboat...

On a more pleasant slant, this sailboat went by us...

We used to see sailboats every time we went out - more of a rarity these days.  Pretty water, looking back towards SPI...

More pelicans looking to share the same landing area...

Another shrimper heading out...

Boats at the wall at the marina sharing space...

We motored back towards the old shrimpboat basin - I wonder what this boat captain does when he isn't out on the water...

Heading for home...

Hi HRB - there is a difference between Padre Island and South Padre Island. We are about 150 - 170 miles south of where that occurred. From what I hear on the news, a couple was murdered and their travel trailer stolen and taken into Mexico. No other info released that I know of.
